Grape Tales: Arinto

Charles Usher winery in Saratoga crafts Arinto with grapes grown in Placer County.

You may have seen Vinho Verde, a white wine from the Vinho Verde region of Portugal, on the shelf of your local wine shop or supermarket. Maybe you've even had a glass of this light, crisp, slightly effervescent wine that is so pale it looks as if you are drinking water. Although vinho Verde means "green wine" in Portuguese and the wine has a green tinge to it, the name refers to its youth. It's a wine best enjoyed a year or two after its release.
